Longitude 2006 honoured at ProWein 2009
Another certificate is on its way to join the growing Flagstone Winery gallery in Somerset West. This time from Düsseldorf, where Flagstone Longitude 2006 has just been rated an “excellent” three stars at the ProWein 2009 Premium Select Wine Challenge.
ProWein is an international trade fair for everything and anything to do with wines and spirits. More than 3,100 exhibitors from 45 countries converge in Germany for the show, in addition to nearly 800 journalists (nice assignment – three days of imbibing!) More than 33,000 professionals connected to the industry visit every year – that’s roughly the same number of people who take part in the Cycle Tour down here in Cape Town every year.
Longitude is a red blend made up of Cabernet (53%), Shiraz (31%), Tannat (5%), Malbec (5%), Petit Verdot (2%), Cab Franc (2%), Pinotage (1%), and Merlot 1%). Winemaker Bruce Jack says: “Our ancient soils and equable, warm climate happily conspire to grow soft-structured, juicy red wines that taste different from the rest of the world. The essence of our Longitude is painstaking blending, always with Pinotage as a component. We want to accentuate a unique South African combination of accessibility and complex diversity. Longitude must taste juicy and fruity. It must feel soft but have intriguing, lingering tannins and flavour, and it must offer unbeatable value for money.”
Longitude 2006 is currently part of a great direct deal: buy a six-bottle case containing Noon Gun 2008, Longitude 2006, Free Run 2007, Dragon Tree 2004, Field Day 2006 and Music Room 2004 for only R400, rather than the usual R500. Please email Hannelize Mouton for orders and additional info.
