Competition from 1 501 wines, from 262 other wine producers was not enough to stop Flagstone scooping several prestigious prizes at the 2009 Michelangelo International Wine Awards, which are widely regarded as among the most credible awards in the country.

The winemaking team at Flagstone are celebrating their huge haul of trophy silverware at both the Stellenbosch and the South African National Young Wine Shows. At the Stellenbosch ward show, the team — led by Gerhard Swart – walked away with five class trophies, including Overall Champion White Wine for their unwooded Semillon (a wine destined for Flagstone Two Roads white blend) and the Overall Champion Red Wine for their wooded Pinotage, a wine destined to be the next award-winning Flagstone Writer’s Block Pinotage.

Another certificate is on its way to join the growing Flagstone Winery gallery in Somerset West. This time from Düsseldorf, where Flagstone Longitude 2006 has just been rated an “excellent” three stars at the ProWein 2009 Premium Select Wine Challenge.
